Two TTRPG nights in one weekend!

When I was a kid, I loved every opportunity I could get to play Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Most of the time I was the Dungeon Master and I loved drawing world maps in the finest detail I could manage, thinking about who lived in the different regions, what the history was like, then drawing up the first few adventures. I smile a little and can geek out a bit in my mind just from the memories of sitting around the table with the pop and snacks, rolling the dice to watch some insanity unfold.

In those days I played 2nd edition, which was my first introduction to the whole genre. Right around the time I went to college I snagged the books for 3rd edition, then later the books for 4th edition becoming more of a collector than a DM or player at that point. When I read the 4th edition books and played maybe 1-2 sessions, I remember it feeling like such a boiled down game compared to AD&D 2E and even 3E.

When 5E came out in 2014 I was older and a bit more established, had read great things about it around release time, so I took the plunge to get back into it. Since then, I've run a few premade campaigns since work and kids didn't leave me a lot of time to build my own worlds anymore. Curse of Strahd was hands-down one of my favorite campaigns to run, though I probably didn't do it justice. Out of the Abyss and Tomb of Annihilation were two of my other favorite campaigns I DMed for friends.

In addition to D&D, I did some dabbling as a player in Pathfinder and more recently I've started GMing a Pathfinder 2E game for my family. I'll write more about that in a separate post and update this one with a link.

Alright, history and nostalgia aside, I had a great opportunity to be a player in a Cyberpunk Red on Roll20 game this weekend and hold session 0 for Forbidden Lands using FoundryVTT hosted on The Forge. Having a chance to be a player again is so much fun, especially as my first time in a non-fantasy TTRPG. But what I have really missed was building worlds to share with others and I'm super excited to be trying a new system outside of D&D and Pathfinder.
